b5media Blog Network

The b5media Blog Network recently got an Akismet Enterprise License and is installing it for all their blogs. For people running dozens or even hundreds of blogs, I can’t imagine how much time Akismet spam protection saves for them and their writers. I’m biased, but I think it’s a very prescient move on their part.

Moderation can protect any blog but with spam ever rising you have to ask if all the time it takes to sift through so many comments is really worth it.

Update: A little more information about it at Blogging Pro and from the b5media blog.

  1. For me, the answer is easy.

I run a blog that has a small amount of traffic — very small, mostly friends and family, just trying to keep up with my travels. In the last two days, Akismet has smashed over 4000 spam comments. That’s probably more than the number of flesh-and-blood visitors I’ve had this whole year.

Yeah, Akismet is *definitely* worth it!

Thanks for such a great service.

  2. PLEASE develop the same technology for email!

I find that Akismet is extremely effective, but I still haven’t found an email spam fighter that works. Many get blocked, but many get through.

Expand your operation. You guys are great.

  3. I’m a blogger over at b5media and think this is a tremendous move. I’ve been using Akismet on my personal blog now for a little while and in that time Akismet is just shy of 38,000 spamments caught. THANKS! I have found a few things sneaking through and also installed Spam Karma 2, but Akismet seems to truly be taking the brunt of the work off my hands.

  4. You have no idea. πŸ™‚

Or maybe you do. Heh. The entire blog world seems to have been in an onslaught with spam and with literally thousands of spam coming into our network every few hours, the investment is highly worth it! Thanks guys for a great product.

  5. We half-jokingly considered doing a press release after Matt posted this Jayvee. We decided that it might be better to activate Akismet on a dozen blogs instead though!
